When I was a kid, I used to watch my grandma piercing some beads. I don’t have any idea what she was doing until it was finished. Basically, she was decorating a long dress or gown with beads at the back and in front just right below the neck down to the chest area of the dress, it was being embroidered with crystal beads in specific. Somewhat the same as shown in the picture below.
According to my grandma, decorating a dress with beads is quiet a tough thing to do hence you need to make sure that the beads, match with the design of the dress that looks luxurious and elegant and not just the typical dress with beads that we see everyday. She designed it for a bride’s wedding dress, so she must be very strict with its design and look.
What grandma did was she first drew an outline of the design and tried to mark the area where beads should be decorated with its respective design – like a flower for example.
Recently, my girlfriend asked me to come with here and go shopping. We were strolling at the mall when we saw a certain boutique selling some dresses with beads on it. Thus, she decided to buy the black dress with beads everywhere.
To conclude, beads has many uses and being categorize into component materials, manufacturing process, place or period of origin, surface patterning, or general shape. Depending on your needs, beads basically can in general are use as decoration usually pierced for threading or string.
